about

After the release of 2017’s How To Fake Your Own Death, Indie Hiphop artist/Producer Jason Ecid was burnt out and ready for the next thing. So he blew up his life, moved to Brooklyn and started an indie-pop band. It was a left turn but to those that know his journey best it was just another stop along the way. The band ultimately ran its course but it led the Minneapolis native to really lean into a 5 year experimentation binge. During this period Jason collected as many vintage synths and pedals as he could afford. Through trial and error he learned what worked and what didn't. The point was to push the sound as far as he could. Eventually culminating in him picking up the bass guitar and most importantly treating chord arrangements with the same feverish curiosity as he did with chopping samples early in his career.

On the outside looking in 2021’s Zen Repair, which saw a total makeover of his production style, must have been the sound Jason was looking for. Trading in psychedelic samples and drum breaks for distorted, warbly synths and found sound loops recorded on an OP-1. But Jason didn’t really feel like he achieved the sound he was searching for just yet. That fall of 21’ he took a trip back to Minnesota to hide out at a friend's lake house to get some much needed space from a world on fire. He had a mellotron shipped there and drove out with a makeshift studio set-up. From the moment he started making beats in that space his creative mind was blown, realizing he just found what he was missing. After all these years what he really wanted was the ability to make beats that sounded like samples but weren’t. Enter the Future Fire era.

What started as a playlist turned into a beat tape ....Upon returning to Brooklyn, Jason rode the creative wave of lake energy throughout the entirety of 2022. Making over 150+ beats which would not only act as the foundation for a new album but a new outlet for sharing his heavy output of production was emerging. As he continued making tracks he would drop the demos in a playlist and eventually started plucking tracks out of said playlist to make what would be tape 001. The majority of which are sequenced in 16 bar clips. Perfect for looping and spitting hot-bars while tastefully curated to be digested as a cohesive project. Future Fire is not intended to be the final product, it's a way to start a conversation…
